In the comments of the last post, a whole slew of you said you’d support the CrankyPM in writing her first and last book: Product Management, the Cranky Way.
Well, now it’s time to DWYSYWD.
Get over to Kickstarter and make a suitable pledge! DO IT! DO IT!
(Alas, you have to create a Kickstarter account first, and if you are one of the few people in the world who has not ever purchased anything from Amazon, you will have to create an Amazon account as well.)
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crankypm/book-product-management-the-cranky-way/‘
Read more details about what will be in the book, what the Cranky PM needs the money for, etc.
She needs to raise $5,000 to even move forward (because it will cost about $7000 total, and she can’t kick in more than $2000 from her own funds – any more than that and she’d be robbing the Cranky Kids’ college funds).
You will see that there are many, many rewards/perks available for high-value contributions. T-SHIRTS. MUGS. A CHANCE TO MEET THE CRANKYPM IN PERSON. For all you various training firms and vendors of PM software, why not take out an ad in the back of the book, high school yearbook-style?
Let’s get this party started, shall we?
The Cranky PM would appreciate your support in getting the word out.
Seriously, thanks.
This would be a great way to wrap up this blog in a pretty bow, and to then move on with life. Thanks so much for your support and for your virtual camaraderie all these years.

Hey, you’re already over $3K :)
I chipped in, but unfortunately not for the $10K pledge. Technically, I could, but then my wife would grow really suspicious about why it’s taking so long to buy the kitchen cabinets we got the HELOC for. Tempting, but best not to put my life in mortal danger, even for the CPM.
I’m already looking forward to the day when I can say I got in on the ground floor of your amazingly meteoric publishing career. Just don’t pull a Dave Chapelle and bolt off to another continent at the height of your fame. And sadly, that’s the extent of the career advice I can give to the ultra-successful. That, and don’t EVER let Tony Robbins talk you into that fire-walking crap (sober).
Tried to find it yesterday morning (evening in Europe) and couldn’t, but so glad you were ON TIME and ON TARGET, so that I could immediately support you before my bucks are gone. Geesh, meeting your stated deadline alone makes you a darn good PM! (And with a relatively detailed project plan that you shared with everyone! I’m impressed! Seriously!)
And oh, I couldn’t choose the reward I wanted as it would make me and my collegues laugh to see my name as a Wicked CPM (I’m so new, I still have diapers, soiled too! Okay, perhaps too much detail there!) But I would like to know how I can orders a couple of Cranky PM mugs.
Great to see the book is coming. What is the story with only shipping in the US? Does it contain national secrets? The rest of the world will support you if you recogise their existance **said crankily with the word recognise spelt with an ‘s’**
I contributed. can’t wait to see the book.

I’d like to pledge, however you’re not making things easy for “us Europeans”. You cant promise to ship to the EU, and many people outside the US do not have Kindles but epub based ereaders. Heck, there isn’t even a Dutch Amazon store (not that that really matters, but still). The funny thing is, when I pledge, I’d actually like to -read- the book. ;-) I haven’t found the time to find out if I actually can.
Hi Edwin, The Cranky PM sincerely apologizes for the trouble she has caused you. She appreciate your support and is flattered by your desire to contribute. The problems the Cranky PM is having are not because she has someting against Europe, she swears. Au contraire, she freakin’ LOVES Europe. And Europeans.
It’s just that it looks very complicated to sell books into Europe (or even Canada) – gotta pay import taxes, VAT, etc. I have no idea how to do that. I understand that there are printing houses that can help me with this, but I have not yet had the time to evaluate and select one. I have no idea how much it would cost.
The Cranky PM promises that at some point, somehow, she will find a way to make this book in its physical form available to Europeans. But she does not know how/when/or for how much yet. Please bear with her. She’s just an insanely busy person with a 60+hour/week job, 2 small kids, and now a book to actually write. She did not have a lot of time to sort out shipping and taxes and such up front. As is, she is still kind of shocked that the Kickstarter even got funded.
Again, the Cranky Product Manager apologizes. I will find a way to get this book to you, somehow. Promise. But it can’t be via Kickstarter’s “contract” right now. So don’t pledge yet. Later, when I sort this out, we’ll figure out another way.
I think it’s time to start thinking about what to do with 10 or 15 grand! :-)
I am in London but pledged anyway, I’m sure shipping to Europe will get figured out somewhere along the way, and I do expect to pay a little over my pledge, so no problems there.
Good luck with the writing!
